The Musings of a Foolish Dreamer

Page 94! Another quick one, and one I couldnt resist. Alas, David Hayter was not asked to play Big Boss in the upcoming new Metal Gear Solid game (or…games? At this time, we’re still not sure how it works)…So. He may not be playing him or Snake again. But in comments Hayter made, he seems to accept it, and he had a good run. I’ll miss him, too.

          Another update is up!

You know what I’d love to have there? A couple of pages of fanart. :D I really love the extra pages on Sakura Hime(or any other manga) where Tanemura’s assistants draw the main characters. It’s super cute.

I have about 4 pages to fill, so space is a bit limited (I might add more). I will post em…

If I can, I’ll sure draw something! :3

Hey-hey, it’s an update! Check it out!
incongruousgears:

Hey, it’s Page 93! This is just a quick one again. I did indeed get a new computer recently, after years of not being able to (although I…was using a working one for those years, too. :P ) It’s been several years since I really felt I could justify getting a new computer. My old one was starting to slowly break down and I even had a brief scare in which I did think it died… Anyway, so I have a lappy this time! I do indeed dislike touch pads, and I’m…not fond of Windows…I did heed other user warnings though, and didn’t get Windows 8.
So here’s hoping to many good years with my new machine!

She-Ra, She-Ra~ Sketches from last night.

It got me thinking, I always loved She-Ra, but I don’t think I’ve *ever* watched the cartoon. I believe I’ve seen the “movie” or some “special” that my dad would rent the VHS for me when I was little. It wasn’t the cartoon what I loved, it was these cards that the Cromi Club would print here in Argentina (here you can see two samples from Mercado Libre. I obviously still own my deck). I would look at the cards, look how beautifully they were drawn and colored, and made up my own stories from the descriptions that were on the cards. I loved doing that. I loved what She-Ra was in my mind. She was strong, had a bad-ass sword, and magic powers. I think I liked Sailor Moon at first because she reminded me of She-Ra (latin american dub, loyal to the Japanese original).

Go to sleep and stop sketching She-Ra, and stop writing in your mind how you would make her comic.

     Awesome! :3

I think the funny thing about the He-Man and She-Ra cartoons was that first…they are kind of hard to take seriously. I mean, really. Some of them ARE that bad. Yeah. On the other hand, I see a lot of great and admirable art in them. The best example are backgrounds; I honestly think a lot of those shows honestly had….terrific and even beautiful backgrounds. I mean…it just doesn’t feel like most animators/animation studios put that kind of effort or thought into their work anymore. It got me thinking a while back about this, and I thought….they don’t make cartoons like this anymore. They just don’t. There’s a certain kind of artistic being that has been lost that is not pursued in animation anymore. I’m not saying that no cartoons are art, or cartoons aren’t art, or no one works hard, etc. Not at all. I just mean that….over time, something HAS been lost. Something that I don’t know if current generations really know or understand, and well, I don’t think it’s coming back either. I don’t even know how to explain this anyway….

I also realize all of this makes me sound old. :P

Whaaaaaaaaaa?? Another regular update?? :O It’s true! And it sure feels good to have done it.
incongruousgears:

   Page 92! I know!
So yeah, have you ever looked up a tutorial online, perhaps for a digital editing program, and found it to be…lacking? I…really hate that. Seriously, if you are going to make a step-by-step, actual tutorial….don’t skip steps. That defeats the purpose of making a tutorial, doesn’t it? I don’t understand people who do this….Now, if you’re not making a real tutorial and are just giving a brief overview of how you do something, that’s fine, but don’t call it a ‘tutorial’ then.

Page 91! Oh God, this is exactly what I did not want to happen…Has it really been this long? Sigh…Well, this is a filler page anyway that I did a while ago. These are Final Fantasy classes, of course. Well, except the moogle… >3 I really am working on trying to get back to regular updates. But….things keep happening….
   Should have another update Thursday!

yamino:

Tumblr is full of skilled artists who constantly and unnecessarily trash their own work and opinions, adding tags like “ugh” and “well I tried” or “this sucks” or “shut up” and I don’t get it. It’s not cute, not helping their self esteem, it makes followers feel bad for admiring them. In the worst…

I think a lot of artists also just have a sense of humor about their own work, and are able to laugh at themselves, which is where a lot of this comes from, too. I think that’s a good thing. I do think  Yamino is right though, but the reasons why people do things like this do vary from person to person. It kind of depends where you get your humor from and just how you look at yourself, I guess. It doesn’t always mean someone is lacking self-esteem or degrading themselves, intentionally or not. I don’t know of any “Tumblr in-jokes” or anything like that, but you know, I wouldn’t be surprised if this is also just part of “Tumblr culture” or something.

Then again, keep in mind people have probably always done things like this, probably ever since tags were created for online posting purposes. Ever read anything on LiveJournal? Oh yeah, people have been using tags like this and doing things like this on LJ forever. :P

I don’t think I’ve personally used a lot of tags like this myself, and probably won’t, no. I try to use more useful tags for real search and archive purposes. :P

Getting used to draw on my desktop computer…… again! T_T

Lookin’ great! :3 Her head shape and face look a little more round, but that’s not a ‘bad’ thing, just something I noticed. :3
